Having a carpet is one of many factors that contribute to a house feeling like a home. Carpet offers a material that is softer, cozier, and warmer in the winter than tile or hardwood. Pets, toddlers, and ordinary mishaps can all wreak havoc on your carpet, leaving it looking drab and unclean.  This is why I (Mark) along with my wife Beatrice here at All Star Chem-Dry in Toronto,  provide professional carpet cleaning services using the safest and most natural carpet cleaning method available in the world.

For a home like yours, it’s all about making it a space for everybody–children, the elderly, and your pets and this is what we at All Star Chem-Dry can guarantee.

Read on to discover more about common home carpet stains and how to treat them to keep your carpets looking as new and vivid as the day they were installed.

Pet Stains

We all appreciate our canine companions. If you own a dog, cat (or even a hamster) you know how much happiness pets can provide to a family. However, mistakes do happen, so it is best to be prepared. Pet excrement, vomit, and urine can all cause long-term damage to carpets and furniture if not properly handled.

The first step is to clear up the mess as soon as possible. This includes scooping up the waste and blotting up the liquids. Scrubbing the spots should be avoided. This can fray the carpet and cause the stain to grow larger and become more difficult to remove later. After removing the principal particles, clean and wipe with a half water and half white vinegar solution.

Coffee Stains

While almost everyone enjoys a hot cup of coffee in the morning, few enjoy the mess it leaves on their carpet. Regardless of the severity of the crisis, being prepared is crucial to reducing the effects.

First, consult the carpet manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations. These pointers will help you select the appropriate responses. Scrubbing your carpet should be avoided. Instead, blot it out. Depending on the colour of your carpet, use a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, as well as a drop or two of general dish detergent to treat and then blot the area.  After removing the coffee stains, place a clean absorbent towel on the spot and a weight (such as a vase) and leave it there for a day to absorb up the moisture in the underpad.

Blood Stains

Summertime brings more outside work and play, which leads to a rise in the amount of cuts and scrapes. There are things you may take to lessen the damage if blood forms a stain on your carpet.

Immediately apply cold water to the discoloration. Warm water aids in the solidification of blood. Make a solution of a few small drops of Dawn or another mild grease-fighting dishwashing soap ind a cup of cold water, mist onto the blood spots and then blot away the stain until it is dry.

Repaint as needed until the stain is gone.

Ink Stains

Natural fibre carpets such as wool are notoriously difficult to clean ink stains from. Not to worry—if you act quickly enough, those obstinate ink stains will be removed before serious damage occurs. Before attempting any DIY treatments, always refer to the carpet manufacturer’s recommendations.

To begin, dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and blot onto the ink stain, and watch your cloth for transfer of the ink. If no rubbing alcohol is available, nail paint remover and/or hairspray can be attempted in their place. Gently dab the area with a microfiber towel and repeat the process until either the stain is gone or no more transfer to the cloth is occuring. Blot dry with a clean towel or a hairdryer.

Conclusion

Let it be known: you can always protect your carpet from the most prevalent stains by getting regular cleaning and adding carpet protector each time you do.  Then for the occasional mishap, all you need is guidance, time and patience, as well as the right tools. When do-it-yourself solutions fail, however, note that you can seek the advice of a professional for a more sophisticated remedy. Either way, you can make sure that your carpet is always in good condition.
